From the Saddle to the Page: Why I Tell These Stories

When Clyde passed, it left a hole - there had been a big grey horse in my field for 11 years. He was like a beacon of sorts (after all how does one miss a big grey horse) - grey, black and bay, 1-2-3 - all is well. Along with the grief and sadness my field felt empty and what does one do with those feelings? How does one make it "not in vain"? How do I honor him?

Well, that is how this blog has come to pass. His story creates the root of it — the stories of all the horses who have touched my life, taught me lessons and held the space for growth will follow and build the rest of the tree. The bad assed bucking horses, the pick up horses that stood strong, the crippled ones that just wouldn't quit and even the baby colt that wasn't meant to live, they all have a story.

Clyde, in life and death, reminded me how fleeting, powerful, and meaningful all the 4 leggeds I've known have been. I realized I wanted a place to capture their stories, to honor them, and to share them in a way that resonates beyond that place inside my soul.

I realized I speak and I teach and I mentor with stories. I realized that I have many stories to tell and that they need tellin' for so many reasons. I would venture to say some reasons I haven't even thought of yet. I know that telling them is healing and that horses are such an amazing gift to all of us. So here we go on a journey of discovery - to be truthful I have no idea where this might lead and if you know me - that in itself is a big assed step out of my comfort zone.

So here we go, you’re going to find reflections, insights, and observations from my life with horses. Some posts will seem like tall tails, some will speak of magic moments, some will be heartfelt and personal, like Clyde’s story. Others may even explore performance, horse and rider health, or the life lessons that come from patience, presence, and partnership.

Beyond that, this space is meant to be thought provoking, to inspire curiosity, encourage reflection, and honor the journey. Oh, and maybe make you laugh out loud once or twice. It’s a place to stop, take a breath and maybe even lick your lips, Who knows, you might even see your own horse stories in a different light.

I hope these stories spark something in you—whether it’s a memory, a lesson, or a moment of gratitude. And if they do, I would invite you to share

.

I have a feeling we're at the start of a pretty special journey. I’m excited to explore it with you, and see where we get to. I believe the 4 leggeds have some awesome lessons to teach us.

I will leave you with the one other thing I know for sure - as a horse person, when you get to the place where "The more you know, the more you know you dont know" .... thats the moment when youre getting somewhere.
